AcroModernLAB is an international project committed to sharing our experience and passion for movement through our intensive workshops.

The ultimate goal of this laboratory is showing performers, artists and athletes of all levels and ages how to use their body and skills in a different way, as well as deepening movement awareness and enriching personal potential.

Through a stimulating approach to modern-contemporary dance and floor acrobatics, practitioners get to investigate crucial topics such as 3-axis coordination, adaptivity, air/floor awareness.

Moreover, advanced dancers will have the chance to open their minds to the new frontier of the current dance scenario, constantly craving for more and more multitalented performers.
Our workshops have been held in dance academies, circus schools and gymnastics centres in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Ghent, Stuttgart, Tel Aviv, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Verona, Venice, Grosseto, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Oaxaca and more.

Teachers: Beatrice Zancanaro and Alberto Poli

From world-class rhythmic gymnast for the italian national team to top level dancer for the largest show business companies around the world (Franco Dragone, Luc Petit, Notre Dame de Paris) Beatrice dedicated all her life to the study and research of the arts of movement and their nuances. She has worked world-wide for television and theatres, including live event with artists like Anastacia, Liza Minelli, Andrea Bocelli and more. Beatrice eventually reached the peak of her career by joining Cirque du Soleil for the first cruise ship live show tour ever created by the Canadian company, in 2017, starting as a dancer and ending as artistic leader.

Alberto found his calling when he was 12, the day he first admired the acrobats of the Guinnessrecord winner musical show “Notre Dame de Paris”. In 2007 he created Team Vertical Limit, group of acrobats and street dancers specializing in live shows and videomaking, and over the years he developed his own style by mixing floor acrobatics with tricking, free run and stunts. He performed as acrobat on several international stages like Glastonbury Festival, Arena di Verona and Royal Opera House of Muscat while training with inspiring artists around the world. In 2016 he joined the international show “Notre Dame de Paris” by Riccardo Cocciante and Luc Plamondon performing as acrobat in Paris, London, Istanbul and all-around Italy.

FinnAcro takes place during the last days of 2019, from December 28th to 31st, at the Jyväskylä Circus School in Finland. The convention offers lots and lots of workout, equally much fun, awesome new acquaintances and intensive learning for four days in a row! Event is mainly for adults, but 16-17-year-olds can participate with a caretaker's permit, and 12-15-year-olds can attend in the company of an adult.

During the convention there are several workshops running simultaneously, and they offer contents for participants at different skill levels, including beginners, intermediate and advanced acrobats. Anyone from "I've never ever tried partner acrobatics" to "I literally do this for a living" (and everyone in between!) will find suitable challenges and things to learn. You are welcome to participate with your partner, but one is not needed for this convention.

MATTINA
“Insanity Coordination” è un riscaldamento divertente dal ritmo molto sostenuto che combina il risveglio mentale e muscolare con la musicalità e il ritmo, tutto ciò che serve per iniziare con la giusta energia.
Segue uno stretching basato sulla fusione tra danza moderno-contemporanea, con movimenti tratti anche dal Pilates, che va a strutturare la corretta postura del corpo in modo da creare una base fisica che sia allo stesso tempo forte e flessibile, poiché sarà il punto di partenza e d’arrivo di ogni movimento.
Gli studenti seguiranno poi un workout preacrobatico, che consiste nell’esplorare varie destrutturazioni ed evoluzioni di verticali, ruote e “macaco” (elementi variabili a seconda del livello) combinati con movimenti derivanti dal floorwork, in modo da creare gradualmente sequenze organiche.
Il focus andrà quindi su atterraggi delicati e transizioni fluenti tra ogni singolo movimento, con l’idea di provare una coreografia e non una mera sequenza di acrobazie.
Quindi il gruppo comincerà a lavorare su diversi e complessi movimenti acrobatici. Ogni studente sarà assistito per adattare la difficoltà al suo livello.
Dopo una piccola pausa, ci muoveremo verso la ricerca di movimento: ognuno analizzerà le interazioni tra copro e spazio su una scala più profonda, cominciando dai concetti fondamentali come i cubi e le sfere di Laban e la loro applicazione su posizioni sottosopra.
Lavorare con diverse velocità e ritmi, diversi livelli, diverse parti del corpo e direzioni a 360° aiuterà gli studenti ad uscire dalla propria zona di comfort.
Infine verrà insegnata la prima parte di una delle nostre coreografie di acromodern.

POMERIGGIO
al seguito di un riscaldamento simile a quello del giorno precedente, la prima parte della lezione si concentrerà sullo sviluppo della “coscienza sul palco”. Giochi creativi di gruppo porteranno gli studenti ad una personale e più intima esplorazione del loro bagaglio emozionale: imparando come bilanciare lo spazio, quando essere leaders e quando essere followers, creando empatia di gruppo e fiducia negli altri elementi. Tutto ciò aiuterà a far innescare i meccanismi che permettono ad ogni performer di poter dare il meglio nelle situazioni di stress (ad esempio lavorare in compagnia o affrontare un’audizione).
Con tutti questi concetti in mente, ripasseremo il carico di lavoro del giorno precedente e aggiungeremo nuovi elementi.
Una volta divisi in piccoli gruppi, gli studenti avranno la possibilità di mettere in pratica il loro lavoro creativo, completando la coreografia con la propria ricerca di movimento.

THE WORKSHOP

Day 1: "Insanity Coordination" is a very fast-paced and fun warm-up that blends rhythm with "brain and body awakening", just what it takes to start off with full energy.

What follows is modem-contemporary dance stretching combined with movements from Pilates, addressed to set the right posture of the body in order to have a strong and dynamic base from where each move and trick is supposed to start and finish.

The students will then move to a pre-acrobatics workout, which consists in exploring variations of carthweels, handstand and "macacos" (depending on the general level) combined with floorwork movements in order to gradually creates smooth combinations. They will focus on soft landings and fluent transitions between every single move, already aware that they are dancing and not only combining tricks.

Next, the group will start working on more complex acrobatic movements that will eventually be part of the final choreography. Each student will be assisted to adapt the difficulty of the skills to his or her own level.

After a short break, we'll move to Dance Movement research: each student will analyze the interactions between body and space on a deeper scale, starting from fundamental concepts like Laban's cubes and spheres to their application on a upside down position. Working with different speed and rhythm, different levels, different leading parts of the body and 360° directions will help each student exit his or her comfort zone.

Lastly, the first part of one of our own AcroModern choreographies will be taught to the group.

Day 2: after the warm up as in Day 1, the first part of the class will focus on developing "stage awareness". Creative group "games" will take the students to a personal, inner experience aiming to dig deep into their own emotional baggage and creativity: learning how to balance the space with the group, when to be leaders and when to be followers, creating group empathy and trust will help triggering the mechanisms that allow each performer to give their best in stressful situations (e.g. working in a company or being at an audition).

With all these concepts in mind, we will go over the whole movement training of the previous day and add new elements to it. Once divided in small groups, the students will have the chance to put the creativity work into practice, by completing the choreography with their own group movement research.

Lezione specifica per acrobati e ginnasti con Alberto Poli, acrobata ora impegnato nel tour mondiale di Notre Dame de Paris.

A seguito di un riscaldamento specifico in cui si lavora tanto su forza e potenza, quanto su coordinazione e scioltezza, si procederà all’insegnamento di alcune tra le coreografie originali di Martino Müller, studiate appositamente per gli acrobati che fanno parte dello spettacolo.

L’occasione è unica per i ragazzi che hanno intenzione di fare della loro passione un lavoro.
Di fatto, nell’ambito nazionale quanto in quello internazionale, gli acrobati e i ginnasti sono sempre più ricercati dalle compagnie di spettacolo, poiché generalmente già in possesso di una base tecnica consolidata, di una spiccata rapidità di apprendimento e buone capacità di adattamento.

ALBERTO POLI
Alberto scopre la sua vocazione a dodici anni, quando insieme ai suoi genitori ammira per la prima volta gli acrobati dello spettacolo “Notre Dame de Paris” di Riccardo Cocciante e Luc Plamondon.
Ci vorranno molti anni di perseveranza, ma dopo aver creato “Team Vertical Limit” il proprio gruppo di performers, essersi esibito all’Arena di Verona e aver viaggiato in diverse parti del mondo, Alberto corona il suo sogno ed entra come acrobata nel cast di “Notre Dame de Paris” per i tours in Italia e all’estero dal 2016 ad oggi.

“Notre Dame de Paris” è lo Spettacolo dei Record scritto da Riccardo Cocciante e Luc Plamondon che gira il mondo da ormai vent’anni e tanti sono i danzatori, acrobati e breakers che hanno fatto parte del corpo di ballo di questa storica compagnia.

From the experiences with Cirque du Soleil and "Notre Dame de Paris", a workshop on the fusion between modern-contemporary dance and floor acrobatics accessible to all movement performers.





The ultimate goal of our project is showing professionals and beginners of all levels and ages how to use their bodies and skills in a completely new way, as well as deepening movement awareness andenriching personal potential, thanks to a very specific and innovative approach to modern-contemporary dance and floor acrobatics.
Moreover, advanced dancers will have the chance to open their minds to the new frontier of the current dance scenario, costantly craving for more and more multitalented performers.




Get ready to sweat! A lot!
No matter who you are, we are going to make you work to your maximum possibilities, from warm-up to cool down.
The way we show how to mix these two disciplines is utterly different from the standard "acrobatic dance", where one throws some gymnastics moves into a choreography:
we treat each acrobatic movement, from basic to advanced, as a dance step with the idea that the audience must not be able to tell the difference between the two things.
